Jeep Compass vs Jeep Cherokee
If you’re exploring options within the 2019 Jeep lineup, you’ve most likely considered the Jeep Compass and the Cherokee. Both vehicles share the features and capabilities of the Jeep name, but there are a few differences to consider in choosing between them.
Drivers in Mansfield, Attleboro, and Norton can find out the differences between these Jeep SUVs with our 2019 Jeep Compass vs. 2019 Jeep Cherokee comparison.
The Compass is standard with a 2.4-liter MultiAir® 4-cylinder rated for 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 6-speed manual transmission. The Cherokee also comes with a 180 horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic transmission as base, but a 270 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-4 and a 271 horsepower 3.2-liter V6 are also available.
Beyond the larger engine options, the new Cherokee also offers more 4-wheel drive systems. With Active Drive I, Active Drive II, and Active Drive Lock, there’s not much terrain the Cherokee can’t tackle. The Compass also offers a 4-wheel drive system and some light off-road features and enhancements, but it’s designed for milder off-roading than the Cherokee. Learn more about how this vehicle can fit your lifestyle.
Both the new Compass and the new Cherokee seat five in two rows of cloth seats. Both vehicles have ample headroom and legroom for all passengers, as well as optional comfort features like leather upholstery and heated seating. Both interiors use a combination of durable, hard-wearing materials and upscale accents for a pleasant, but still practical, look.
For cargo space, the Compass provides 27.2 cubic feet with the back seats up and 59.8 cubic feet with the seats down. The front passenger seat also folds forward, which provides more space for long or awkward cargo. The Cherokee’s redesign also adds more cargo space, but it falls slightly short of the Compass, offering 25.8 cubic feet of space with the seats up and 54.7 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. The Cherokee does have a hidden storage compartment below the cabin floor, however, which can be used to store personal items.
The 2019 Jeep Compass and the 2019 Cherokee are standard with a Uconnect® infotainment system with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® functionality, Bluetooth®, and a 7-inch touchscreen. You can’t go wrong with either vehicle in this respect, as both offer smartphone-like gestures for controls, a straightforward interface, and responsive inputs, as well as an 8.4-inch touchscreen upgrade.
The Compass and Cherokee come standard with a rearview camera and parking sensors. Plenty of active safety features are available, however, such as Lane Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward-Collision Warning, and Blind-Spot Monitoring. These features help to alert you to potential collisions and avoid them.
